TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Sophomore Jackson Baumeister struck out a career-high 14 batters Thursday as Florida State snapped its losing streak with a 5-1 win over Clemson at Dick Howser Stadium. At the plate, the Seminoles got three RBI from Jaime Ferrer – who extended his hitting streak to 20 games – and a solo home run from James Tibbs III.

Baumeister, making his eighth start of the season, struck out the side to begin the game and had at least one strikeout in all seven innings pitched. Along with his 14 strikeouts, his 7.0 innings pitched and 110 pitches were also career bests. Baumeister has now accounted for two of FSU’s three wins by a starting pitcher this season.

After DeAmez Ross singled against Austin Gordon to start the game, Ferrer hit his fifth home run of the season on the first pitch he saw. Ferrer added an RBI single in the third inning that also scored Ross.

Ferrer’s 20-game hitting streak is tied for the 17th-longest in school history, and the longest for a Nole since 2011.

FSU tacked on a run in the fourth inning on Jordan Carrion’s RBI double, and Tibbs’ 10th home run of the year capped FSU’s scoring.

The Tigers scored its lone run in the eighth inning on four walks from the FSU bullpen, but Carson Montgomery got two outs to escape trouble and earned his first save of the season – and second of his career – with a scoreless ninth inning.

  • Jaime Ferrer turned the first pitch he saw into a two-run home run, his fifth of the season. It extended his hitting streak to a career-long 20 games, the longest for a Seminole since 2011 and tied for the 17th-longest in school history:
    • 40, Shane Robinson, June 5, 2004 to April 3, 2005
    • 21, 2x, last Jeremy Morris, February 3, 1996 to March 15, 1996
    • 20, 8x, last Jaime Ferrer – March 4, 2023 to present

  • James Tibbs III hit his 10th home run of the season, matching his total from his freshman season. His 10 home runs this year and 20 for his career are most on the team.
  • Jordan Carrion hit an RBI double, his 10th of the season. His 10 doubles are the second-most on the team, behind Ferrer’s 12.
  • DeAmez Ross singled in his first two at-bats, and scored on Ferrer’s home run and single. He has scored 17 runs in 16 games played this year.
