LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – James Tibbs and Ben Barrett combined for six hits and four RBI in Florida State's 7-4 loss at Louisville in Jim Patterson Stadium Thursday night.
Tibbs led off the game with his team-high 16th home run for the early FSU lead. Tibbs has three leadoff home runs in just eight games in the leadoff slot; as a team, FSU has hit four leadoff blasts after not having one between 2018 and 2022.
Trailing 3-1, Tibbs hit another solo home run to start the third inning for his first career multi-home run game. Tibbs was intentionally walked to load the bases with two outs in the fourth inning, a move that worked out for the Cardinals when Titan Kamaka ended the inning with a groundout.
Junior Andrew Armstrong – fourth in the country with 32 appearances – made just his second start of the season, allowing three runs in a career-high 6.0 innings. Louisville took the lead on a pair of hits and two hit batters in the first inning, and added a run on a wild pitch in the third.
Barrett gave FSU a lead with a two-run single in the fifth inning that held until an infield single tied the game for the Cardinals in the seventh. Jack Payton hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning that secured Louisville's win.
