TALLAHASSEE - The No. 25 Florida State men's tennis team begins its neutral-site stretch with a trip back to Starkville, Mississippi, for ITA Kickoff Weekend. Advancing past this weekend would grant qualification to the 2024 ITA DI National Men's Team Indoor Championships in New York, New York.
The Seminoles will compete in their third straight ITA Kickoff Weekend and face Arizona State on Saturday at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. Florida State hasn't matched up against the Sun Devils since 2002. FSU then faces either No. 12 Mississippi State or VCU on Sunday at 11 a.m. or 2 p.m. ET.
After dispatching Mercer and Jacksonville State on opening day, Florida State fell in their top-20 matchup at Mississippi State before capturing a stunning last-set thriller at Alabama.
Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc added to his mighty collegiate résumé with two singles victories over top-40 ranked players this past weekend. He defeated No. 13 Petar Jovanovic of Mississippi State in straight sets before facing No. 35 Filip Planinsek of Alabama. The match against Planinsek came down to a third set that would decide the winning point in the team match and when the pressure was heaviest, Cornut-Chauvinc delivered with a dominant 6-1 third-set win.
In addition, Cornut-Chauvinc and Joshua Dous-Karpenschif impressed in the doubles round as they defeated the 25th-ranked pairing in the country at Alabama, with a dominant 6-2 scoreline.
