No. 23 Florida State Women's Basketball looks to complete the regular-season sweep over Georgia Tech on Sunday at McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta with a 4 p.m. tipoff on the ACC Network.
The Seminoles (14-7, 5-4) defeated the Yellow Jackets (13-7, 4-4) in their ACC opener, 95-80, in Tallahassee on Dec. 29.
Sophomore guard Ta'Niya Latson has played three games against Georgia Tech, owning scoring performances of 32 points (Jan. 1, 2023), 31 points (Feb. 19, 2023) and 30 points (Dec. 29, 2023) against the Yellow Jackets. Latson earned another honor on Tuesday, being named an Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting Guard Top 10 Finalist. Latson was a finalist for the award last season. In ESPN's latest Top 25 women's college basketball player rankings on Dec. 21, Latson was rated 15th overall - before she began conference play with three consecutive 30-points games vs. Georgia Tech, Wake Forest and NC State.
Sunday's game features two teams that take good care of the basketball. The Seminoles are sixth nationally and are first in the ACC with just 11.0 turnovers per game. Georgia Tech ranks fourth in the league averaging just 13.4 turnovers per game.
The return to Atlanta means a trip home for sophomore guard Snoop Turnage, who has started each of the last six games for FSU. Turnage and teammate Latson teamed up along with South Carolina's Raven Johnson to win the 2021 GEICO National Championship at Westlake High School. Latson moved to Miami her senior season and played at American Heritage High School.
FSU enters Sunday's game with a NET ranking of 46, which includes six wins against the Top 100 and a NET strength of schedule of 22.
Latson remains one 30-point game shy of sole possession of first place in school history. Latson is currently tied with Seminole legend Sue Galkantas (1980-84) with 11 30-point performances in their FSU careers.
One of Makayla Timpson's nine double-doubles this season came vs. Georgia Tech, with 20 points and 14 rebounds on Dec. 29.
