Echegini Looks to Win FSU's Fourth MAC Hermann Trophy

1/3/2024 2:04:00 PM | Women's Soccer

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Florida State soccer forward Onyi Echegini has already won a plethora of awards after a terrific season, but she will look to add college soccer's most prestigious award to her resume on Friday night as the MAC Hermann Trophy winner will be announced at 7:30 p.m. A live stream of the announcement will be available at machermanntrophy.org. Echegini is one of three finalists as she is joined by Eleanor Dale from Nebraska and Brecken Mozingo from BYU.

Echegini is hoping to secure FSU's fourth MAC Hermann Trophy as Jaelin Howell won the award in 2020 and 2021 while Mami Yamaguchi won the award in 2007. If Echegini were to win the award, FSU's four MAC Hermann trophies would be the third-most of any program behind North Carolina and Stanford. FSU would also have won the award in three out of the last four seasons.

Echegini put together one of the best seasons in school history as she posted a career-high and ACC-leading 16 goals this season. Along with being the Honda Sports winner for women's soccer, Echegini was also named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year. Echegini added five assists for a total of 37 points for the 2023 National Champions.

The Hermann Trophy has been presented to the top player in college soccer since 1967. Go to machermanntrophy.org for more information about the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy.
