CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St. Thomas – The Florida State women's basketball team (8-1) won its third game in three days at the Paradise Jam at the University of the Virgin Islands, defeating Gonzaga 95-54 on Saturday to claim the Reef Division title.
Ta'Niya Latson became the fourth Seminole in history to accomplish a triple-double, joining Wanda Burns (1990), Leticia Romero (2015) and Kiah Gillespie (2019). The Miami, native, scored 24 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and tied her career high with 10 assists, becoming the ninth player in the nation to perform a triple-double.
Latson opened the tournament with her second double-double (30 points, 11 rebounds) against Texas Tech on Thursday and added 21 points against Missouri State on Friday, earning MVP honors.
Makayla Timpson was named to the all-tournament team, adding 20 points and five rebounds against the Bulldogs, while Sydney Bowles finished with 17 points, including five three-pointers.
Florida State tallied 15 steals, led by Timpson, who tallied her career high with six, as the Noles forced the Bulldogs (4-5) to commit 26 turnovers. O'Mariah Gordon also added 14 points, four assists and four steals.
The Seminoles are 8-0 all-time in the Paradise Jam, winning two games in 2002 and three in 2016 in both 2024.
After facing the only deficit by two points early, the Seminoles got right to work and put together a 19-4 stretch, jumping in front 28-12.
In the second quarter, Gonzaga went on an 8-0 run, but Bowles hit back-to-back threes, stretching the lead to 17. FSU held tight on defense, keeping the Bulldogs without a field goal for five minutes. Bowles was 4-of-5 in the first half from three as the Seminoles made six, taking the 48-23 lead to the locker room.
Out of the break, the Noles scored seven quick points and stretched the lead to 20, however Gonzaga fought back and cut it to 13. With seven points in the first half, Latson took control by driving to the basket, adding 11 points as FSU led 65-46, heading to the final quarter.
The Seminoles ended the game on a 13-2 run that included seven assists from Latson.
FSU finished the game 12-of-28 from three, behind made shots from six players.
Florida State will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee to face the Lady Volunteers (5-0) on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. at the Food City Center.
