TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State women's basketball team will begin a three-game homestand on Sunday when it hosts SMU at 2 p.m. to open ACC play.
It will be the first meeting between the Seminoles (8-2) and Mustangs (5-4) in the series history.
FSU will be the first ACC opponent for SMU. The Noles also welcomed Pittsburgh to the ACC in January of 2014 and Miami in 2005. FSU defeated the Panthers in Pittsburgh, 76-53, and the Hurricanes at home, 65-56.
Ta'Niya Latson leads the second-ranked scoring offense (94.3 points per game) in the country, averaging 27.4 points per game.
Angel Gray and Aja Ellison will be on the call on ACC Network. The radio broadcast will air on 96.5 The Spear, Seminoles.com and on Sirius XM channel 371.
O'Mariah Gordon will be recognized prior to the game for becoming the 42nd Seminole in history to score 1,000 career points.
The Last Time Out
A game that featured the two highest scoring offenses in the nation, Florida State fell to Tennessee as a part of the SEC/ACC Challenge, 79-77.
A tale of two halves, the Noles fell just short of completing a 20-point second-half comeback bid. FSU erased the deficit in the third quarter behind a 23-4 run, tying the game, 57-57. FSU had the final possession in regulation down by two, but missed the final shot.
Latson led all scorers with 38 points, which was a career-high and just two shy of the program record set by Natasha Howard at 40.
Makayla Timpson added her fifth double-double of the season and 36th of her career, finishing the game with 11 points, and 13 rebounds. O'Mariah Gordon added 16 points.
Conde Selected in Expansion Draft
Former FSU women's basketball player Maria Conde was selected in the WNBA Expansion Draft on Friday night.
Conde, who was selected in the third round of the 2019 WNBA Draft by the Chicago Sky, will look to log her first minutes in the league in 2025 with the Golden State Valkyries.
A native of Madrid, Conde was a two-time Olympian for Team Spain. She played for FSU from 2015-17, helping the Noles to a Sweet Sixteen appearance in 2016 and an Elite Eight berth in 2017.
Florida State is the only program in the country with two different single-game 38-point scores in Latson and Timpson. Both players tie for the most field goals made in a single game in the country at 15.
