TALLAHASSEE - There isn't a more meaningful game this season than what takes place on Sunday at Noon at the Tucker Center between No. 12 Notre Dame and Florida State.
It marks the annual 'Paint it Pink' game where all proceeds from t-shirts sold benefit the Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare Walker Breast Program. Fans are encouraged to wear their pink attire to help raise awareness for breast cancer.
In the 2022-23 academic year, the Florida State Athletics and the TMH 'Paint it Pink' partnership raised $12,672.06 to benefit the Walker Breast Health program.
Florida State head coach Brooke Wyckoff is going through her own breast cancer journey after having a cancerous mass removed on Oct. 31 at TMH. The Seminole legend currently undergoes light preventative treatment while balancing her daily duties as head coach this season.
The Seminoles are searching for their fourth ranked win of the season, and their third AP Top 15 victory after owning wins over No. 11 Tennessee (92-91) and No. 11 Virginia Tech (89-81). The last time FSU had three Top 15 wins in a season was in 2019-20, a year in which they were on the cusp of hosting before COVID-19 ended the NCAA Tournament that season.
FSU generated an ACC-season high 28 bench points in its road win at Pittsburgh on Thursday. Freshman Carla Viegas led the Seminoles with 17 points, setting a season high with five made 3-point field goals. Viegas is the fifth Seminole this season to lead the team in scoring.
Sunday's big matchup is a battle between the two highest-scoring teams in the ACC this season. Notre Dame (1st, 82.32 ppg) and FSU (2nd, 81.04) are the only teams in the league averaging above 80 points per game. In ACC play, FSU leads the league in scoring at 76.67 points per game, followed by Notre Dame's 75.64 points.
Ta'Niya Latson and Notre Dame's Hannah Hidalgo are two of the best players in the ACC. Hidalgo, only a freshman, leads the conference in scoring at 25.05 points per game, while Latson is fourth at 20.22. They are two of four 20-point scorers in the league, joining Virginia Tech's Elizabeth Kitley (22.22) and Syracuse's Dyaisha Fair (21.43).
