Noles Capture Four Wins to Close Auburn First Chance

AUBURN, Ala.  –  The No.16/RV Florida State swimming and diving teams concluded the Auburn First Chance Invitational on Saturday.
 
The 16th-ranked men's team picked up three individual wins. Peter Varjas took home gold in the 100 free (42.43), while Jack Rowell was the winner in the 1650 free, touching with a time of 15:33.21.
 
FSU swept platform, led by David Vargas in first at 389.05. Jesco Helling followed in second (383.00) and Darwin Nolasco (365.50) was third. All three Noles turned in personal best scores.
 
Isabel Gregersen also turned in her personal best score on the women's platform, scoring 302.90 for the victory.  
 
"It was a great weekend for us," FSU head coach Neal Studd said. "We closed out the weekend with some personal bests, which is all you can ask for this time of year. I am proud of the team and how we competed this weekend. Now, it's on to ACC's."
 
Nico Cecchi saw a drop in the 200 back, touching with a time of 1:46.92 for fourth place ahead of Conner Lowery in sixth (1:49.15).
 
In the 200 breast, Jaydon Cunningham saw a near two-second drop, clocking 1:58.33 for second place. Jason Martindale followed tied for third (1:58.61).
 
Brennan Hammond led the way for the Noles in the 200 fly (1:46.15), placing fourth.
 
Ella Dyjak (17:07.07) and Cadence Fort (17:17.47) finished second and third in the women's 1650 free.
 
Jenny Bird contributed her best in the 200 back, touching sixth at 2:01.23, just ahead of Reese Hinnerichs in seventh (2:01.27).
 
Turning in the top time in the 100 free for the Noles was Brooke Arnold at 50.59, which was her personal best for 10th place.
 
Rachel Moran tied for eighth in the 200 breast (2:19.34) and Maddy Huggins touched fourth in the 200 fly (2:00.84) ahead of Aimee DuHamel (2:02.99) in seventh.
 
The Seminoles will compete in the ACC Championships from Feb. 20-24 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
