PITTSBURGH, PA. – Despite a furious comeback by Pittsburgh on Thursday night at the Petersen Events Center, Florida State Women's Basketball used a strong fourth quarter to earn a 76-60 road win.
Junior forward Makayla Timpson totaled 15 points and 11 rebounds for her 11th double-double of the season, including her second straight. Timpson had the assignment of trying to contain Pitt post Liatu King, who had 21 points and 15 boards but went 9-of-20 from the floor.
The Seminoles (17-7, 8-4) got their third ACC road win of the season behind a critical performance from their bench, out-scoring Pitt 28-7. It was FSU's most bench points in ACC play, as freshman Carla Viegas recorded a career-high five 3-point field goals along with 17 points.
Viegas and Sara Bejedi own the season highs this season with most 3-pointers made, as Bejedi has done it three times this season.
Sophomore Ta'Niya Latson chipped in with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists. Graduate guard Alexis Tucker got hot early to spark the Noles and had nine points.
FSU held a 25-point lead at 42-17 right before halftime, its largest lead in ACC play this season. Pitt came out strong in the third quarter, even cutting its deficit to 50-45 with 2:46 left in the third. Following a needed timeout, it was Timpson who responded big with a layup inside and then two more free throws made to give FSU the cushion it needed at 54-45.
The Seminoles then ended the game on a 22-15 run to seal another win over the Panthers (7-17, 1-10), improving to 11-0 all-time against Pitt.
