No. 13 Seminoles Drop Match to No. 17 Duke

TALLAHASSEE –The No. 13 Florida State men's tennis team fell 4-3 in a top-20 matchup against No. 17 Duke at home on Sunday afternoon.
The day began with a tightly contested doubles round that was neck-and-neck until the later portion of the sets. Duke grabbed victories on Court 1 and 3 to take the first point while Youcef Rihane and Loris Pourroy's match was left unfinished at 4-5.
Jamie Connel executed his play to a T and rose to the occasion with a triumphant 6-2, 6-2 straight-sets victory for his fifth straight singles win. Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc performed brilliantly to remain undefeated in singles play, and the No. 4 singles player in America earned his 10th ranked win of the season.
After a Duke win at No. 2 singles tied the match, Alex Bulte took a three-set win on Court 6 to retake a 3-2 match lead. All eyes panned to Courts 3 and 5 to decide the match.
Rihane and Joshua Dous-Karpenschif each split the first two sets and fought back to earn third-set tiebreakers. Both tiebreakers were dropped at 7-3 in each match.
Florida State is 13-4 now on the season and 3-2 in the ACC. The Seminoles will host Virginia Tech and No. 3 Virginia on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Admission is free to all home tennis matches.
