Noles Drop Series Finale at No. 3 Clemson

3/24/2024 5:14:00 PM | Baseball

CLEMSON, S.C. – No. 12 Florida State fell 14-12 Sunday afternoon to No. 3 Clemson at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. Florida State hit five more home runs and had 12 on the weekend but could not contain a hot-hitting Tiger team.

James Tibbs hit his 9th and 10th home runs of the year and reached safely in all five plate appearances, while Cam Smith and Alex Lodise hit two-run home runs in the sixth inning. Marco Dinges added his second of the weekend in the ninth inning.

Max Williams got FSU on the board with a two-run single in the second inning and Marco Dinges added an RBI double in the sixth. The Noles scored five runs in the second and sixth innings.

OF NOTE:
  • James Tibbs hit two home runs Sunday, his third multi-home run game of the season and fourth of his career. Tibbs' three runs tied a season high.
  • FSU's 12 home runs in the series vs. Clemson came from seven different players. Ferrer, Cam Smith Marco Dinges and Alex Lodise hit two each.
  • Tibbs is the first Seminole with at least 10 home runs in three straight seasons since Mike McGee (2009 – 19; 2010 – 17; 2011 – 10). Tibbs hit 10 as a freshman and 17 last year.
  • Smith and Lodise both homered in the sixth inning Sunday. Smith extended his on-base streak to 32 games.
  • Max Williams hit a two-run single to begin the scoring. It was his third two-RBI game of the season and second of the weekend.
  • Williams single and Dinges' RBI double were FSU's only runs on the weekend that did not come via home run (24 runs scored).
  • Ferrer was hit by a pitch in the first inning to extend his on-base streak to 29 games. His 35 career HBP rank eighth in FSU history.
  • FSU hit five home runs for the second consecutive game. Before Saturday, the Noles had not had a five-home run game since 2021.

UP NEXT:
Florida State will face No. 6 Florida Tuesday at 121 Financial Ballpark in Jacksonville, Florida. FSU beat the Gators 12-8 in Gainesville on March 12, the Noles most runs in Gainesville since 2007.
