TALLAHASSEE – A school-record seven members of the Florida State Men's Basketball team – Taylor Bol Bowen, Jaylan Gainey, Darin Green Jr., Tom House, Baba Miller, Josh Nickelberry, and Jamir Watkins – have been named to the ACC All-Academic Men's Basketball team as announced by the conference office. The seven selections allowed the Seminoles to rank as one of four schools in the 15-team league with seven or more selections.
It marked the ninth consecutive season – and 16th time in Head Coach Lenard Hamilton's tenure – that at least one Seminole has been named to the All-ACC Academic Men's Basketball team. Florida State has earned a total of 31 selections to the prestigious academic team under Hamilton.
House (political science) and Miller (Social Science) have been named to the ACC academic team for the second consecutive year. Bol Bowen joins Anthony Richardson (2002), Todd Galloway (2003), Von Wafer (2004), Dwayne Bacon (2016), Trent Forrest (2017), Matthew Cleveland (2022), House (2023), and Miller (2023) as the ninth freshman in school history to be named to the All-ACC Academic Men's Basketball team.
Gainey, who will earn his second master's degree from Florida State in August of 2024, has now been named to the 2022 Ivy League All-Academic team, the 2023 ACC Academic Honor Roll, the 2023 NABC Academic Honors Court, and the 2024 All-ACC Academic Team.
Bol Bowen has a great appreciation for the power of academics and has long performed at a high level in the classroom.
"Academics have always come first in my family," said Bol Bowen. "It's something that I've learned to appreciate. I'd like to thank both of my previous institutions -- St. George's and Brewster Academy -- for teaching me how to balance school and basketball at the highest level."
Florida State's Hamilton has an incredible graduation rate of better than 97 percent during the first 22 years of his career at Florida State. A total of 74 of 76 players who have played four years for Hamilton at Florida State have earned the degrees.
In order to be named to the All-ACC Academic Team, which includes players from each of the league's 15 teams, players must have earned a 3.0 grade point average or better for their career, a 3.0 GPA or better during the most recently completed semester and have participated in 15 in at least 50 percent of the team's games during the season.
