Florida State Falls To No. 5 Virginia In Regular Season Finale

Charlottesville, VA – The No. 23 Florida State women's tennis team (15-7, 9-4 ACC) fell to No. 5 Virginia (19-3, 12-1) 4-2 at the Virginia Tennis Facility on Sunday in the regular season finale.
The Cavaliers entered singles with a 1-0 lead after securing victories at No. 2 and No. 1 doubles. Cade Cricchio and Laura Putz were tied 5-5 at No. 3 when the doubles point was clinched. Virginia would extend the lead to 2-0 after a win at No. 6 singles.
Senior Ellie Schoppe responded with a 6-0, 7-6 (3) win against the 23rd-ranked Hibah Shaikh at No. 2 singles. Anna Arkadianou tied the match at 2-2 after she defeated 76th-ranked Sara Ziodato 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
Virginia secured victories at No. 5 and No. 4 singles to clinch the match and end Florida State's eight-match winning streak. The streak was FSU's longest since 2011 and tied for the third-longest winning streak in program history.
Florida State earned the No. 3 seed in the ACC tournament and will begin play Friday. The full tournament bracket and schedule will be announced when all seeds are finalized. Live stats and video will be available on Seminoles.com.
