Koenig and Head Named to AVCA Player of the Year Watch List

TALLAHASSEE - Florida State volleyball seniors Taylor Head and Audrey Koenig were both named to the AVCA Division I Player of the Year Watch List on Wednesday morning. Florida State is one of four ACC schools (Florida State, Louisville, Pitt, Stanford) to have multiple players on the list.
A Third Team All-American at Arkansas last season, Head has stepped in and been a great asset for the Seminoles so far in 2024. Head has recorded 86 kills which is third on the team, but has been just impressive on the defensive end as she is tied with Koenig with 76 digs this season and holds a .975 reception percentage with just four errors on 162 attempts. Head has also recorded 18 blocks this season. Head has come on strong the last three matches as she has recorded 10 or more kills against Florida Atlantic, UCF and Florida.
The reigning ACC Co-Player of the Year has been nothing short of spectaculary for the Noles through nine matches this season. Koenig has recorded 98 kills in eight matches for FSU has recorded 10 or more kills in her last six matches. Koenig has also contributed 76 digs and holds a .966 serve reception percentage for the Noles. Koenig crossed a milestone against Auburn on Sept. 8 as she became just the sixth player in school history to surpass 1,000 career kills in the rally scoring era.
The inaugural list includes 36 players from 21 schools, and the names will be revealed in groups of 12 over three days—from Wednesday., Sept. 18 to Friday, Sept. 20.
The Watch List will be narrowed down in November, and then the names of the finalists will be released before the AVCA Convention. The 2024 AVCA Player of the Year will be announced on Friday, Dec. 20, in Louisville, KY, during the AVCA Convention.
FSU will return to action when they take on Alabama on Saturday in Tuscaloosa. First serve is set for 3 p.m. and can be seen live on SECN+.
