Boston College Tops Florida State 28-13

Boston College scored a pair of touchdowns in each half in a 28-13 win over Florida State in Doak Campbell Stadium on Labor Day night.
BC quarterback Thomas Castellanos showed his dual-threat ability throughout the game throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for another. He finished 10-of-16 passing for 106 yards and ran for 73 yards on four carries.Â

FSU quarterback D.J. Uiagelelei finished the night 21-of-42 for 272 yards and a touchdown. Ja'Khi Douglas was the Seminoles' top receiver with four catches for 66 yards. Kentron Poitier had three receptions for 79 yards and had a 29-yard touchdown, his first of the season.
Linebacker Cam Riley led the Seminoles with 10 tackles and also forced a fumble. Defensive back Shyheim Brown and linebacker D.J. Lundy were both credited with eight stops, while Blake Nichelson earned a career-high seven tackles in his first collegiate start. Defensive lineman Daniel Lyons had a team-best and career-high 1.5 sacks.

Boston College's offense controlled the ball in the first quarter limiting the Seminoles to just one possession and took the first lead in the game on the first play of the second quarter on a 4-yard run by Castellanos that capped a 14-play drive that covered 71 yards and ran over nine minutes off the clock. The Eagles made it 14-0 with 9:58 left in the first half when Castellanos found running back Treshaun Ward in the left flat for a 13-yard touchdown pass.

After forcing a three-and-out by Boston College and gaining great field position when a heavy rush forced a poor punt by the Eagles, Florida State took advantage and cut into the lead with a 31-yard Ryan Fitzgerald field goal that made it 14-3 with 5:05 left in the half and moved Fitzgerald into eighth on FSU's all-time career scoring list. The Coolidge, Georgia, native now has 313 points scored, passing Gary Cismesia's 308 points from 2004-07.

Florida State's defense limited Boston College to just three snaps on a second consecutive possession, and the offense again moved into scoring position. Fitzgerald made it 14-6 with a 24-yard field goal with 25 seconds left in the half.

Boston College's Max Tucker picked off a pass on a 4th-down attempt on FSU's first drive of the second half and returned it 58 yards to the FSU 7-yard line. Two plays later, Castellanos found Robichaux coming out of the backfield for a 4-yard touchdown and a 21-6 lead with 11:58 left in the third quarter.
Florida State's offense mounted its best drive of the game late in the third quarter. Uiagalalei completed three consecutive passes including a nifty pitch-back which he completed to Kentron Poitier for 39 yards. Uiagalelei found Poitier again on the next play, and he raced in from the 29-yard line with 3:52 left to make the score 21-13 with 5:19 left in the third.
