Ewin Leads Seminoles With 15; Clemson Takes Victory At Home

CLEMSON, S.C. – Junior Malique Ewin scored 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds while Jamir Watkins and Jerry Deng scored 11 points each as Florida State fell to Clemson at Littlejohn Coliseum by a 77-57 margin. The Tigers made 13 3-point shots, outscored Florida State 13-2 to begin the second half, and scored 41 second half points to win their fifth ACC game of the season.
Florida State is now 11-5 and 2-3 in the ACC. Clemson is now 13-5 and 5-1 ACC play.
Ewin and Watkins have now scored in double figures in 13 consecutive games. Both players have scored in double-figures in each Florida State game since November 15. Ewin led the Seminoles with nine rebounds.
Ewin finished with his fourth career double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Florida State entered the game as the ACC leader in both blocked shots and steals and continued to play well on the defensive end of the court against Clemson. The Seminoles each six steals (two each by Watkins and Taylor Bol Bowen) and blocked four shots (one each by Watkins, Ewin, Deng and Alier Maluk).
The first half saw five ties and two lead changes as the conference opponents battled on both ends of the court. The Seminoles led by as many as three, while the Tigers stretched their lead to nine as they shot better than 48 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes.
Clemson led 36-29 at the half.
Clemson came out of the locker room on fire as it scored the first four points and 13 of the first 15 to take a commanding 49-31 lead with 16:06 left to be played.
Florida State continued to apply defensive pressure as it forced the Tigers into 10 turnovers and scored seven points off of the Tigers' miscues.
Freshman Daquan Davis played unselfishly, leading the team in assists five to bring his assists total of 15 in the last two games, He also added seven points, 3 rebounds, and one steal.
Florida State outscored Clemson in the paint 30-26 as Ewin continued to play like an All-ACC honoree. He made six of 11 shots from the field, added three free throws and one blocked shot..
Florida State heads back home to Tallahassee for a two-game home stretch with its next matchup against Pittsburgh on Wednesday, January 15, at 9 PM in the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center.
