Florida State Set To Host Alabama State In Home Opener

TALLAHASSEE - The No. 24 Florida State women's tennis team hosts Alabama State for a doubleheader beginning Sunday at 10:00 a.m. at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center. 

FSU won the only previous matchup in series history, defeating the Hornets 4-0 in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Championships. Head coach Jennifer Hyde is seeking her 18th home-opening victory in her 21st season for the Seminoles. 
The Seminoles are coming off their first action of the spring season winning seven singles and four doubles matches during the two-day event at the Florida Invitational.

Sophomore Laura Putz is off to a hot start to begin her spring campaign, starting the season with an undefeated record of 3-0. Putz won her only singles match of the weekend, rallying back after dropping the first set to win 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (8). In doubles, she partnered with Amelia Bissett and Mary Boyce Deatherage winning their matches 6-3, and 7-5 respectively.  

Tina Li and Deatherage also started undefeated in singles play, winning two matches. Li won 24 of 30 games over the weekend winning her matches 6-3, 6-0, and 6-1, 6-2. Deatherage won her first singles match in a three-set battle, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (7) before cruising to a straight-set 6-4, 6-4 victory on Sunday.
