Timpson Sets Career Double-Double Record as FSU Downs Miami

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State Women's basketball team (15-4, 5-2 ACC) defeated Miami (11-7, 1-6 ACC) 88-66 on Sunday at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center.
Makayla Timpson highlighted the win by securing the 42nd double-double of her career, setting the program record. Timpson passed Natasha Howard's mark of 41 that was established between 2010-14, after scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds. Timpson added four blocks and three steals.
In addition to Timpson's record, Florida State made 18 three-point shots, setting a new program record for threes made in a single game. The Seminoles tied the mark at 15 to start the season against North Florida.
FSU had four players scoring in double-digits, led by Ta'Niya Latson, who scored 30 points. Latson went 5-of-5 from beyond the arc, which also matched a program high.
Carla Viegas made four three-pointers, finishing the game with 14 points, followed by Sydney Bowles with 11.
Despite an early 8-0 start, Miami took the lead in the first quarter, 22-18.
FSU did not stay down for long, putting up an 11-0 run in the second, holding Miami to 27 percent shooting. The Noles fought hard for a 42-32 advantage at half.
In the third, the Seminoles made six three-point shots, as Latson and Bowles each contributed two. Viegas hit one, along with Malea Williams, who made three in the game. Latson led the quarter with eight points as FSU pulled ahead, scoring 22 points, 64-51.
The Noles did not let up in the fourth quarter, scoring 24 points to secure the win, 88-66.
Florida State will hit the road to face No. 14/14 North Carolina on Sunday, January 26, at 12:00 p.m. on ACC Network.
