1/31/2025 11:41:00 AM | Men's Basketball

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – As Florida State begins the second half of its ACC schedule on Saturday at Boston College, senior Jamir Watkins looks to continue to push his numbers towards the top of numerous statistical categories in the Seminoles' record book.

Florida State's (13-8, 4-6 ACC) game against the Eagles (9-11, 1-8 ACC) can be seen on the ACC Network beginning at 2:00 p.m. The game can also be heard on the Seminole Sports Network with Jeff Culhane and Jack Kavovit.

In just two seasons as a Seminole, Watkins has put himself into position to become one of the most  prominently listed players in the Florida State record book in categories ranging from scoring and free throw shooting on offense and steals and rebounding on defense. He's currently listed in the top 25 of 11 different statistical categories for a single-game, to a single-season, and for a players' career.

As he works on the court to win basketball games with his teammates, he is also working towards a monumental accomplishment in his life – graduating from Florida State University. He will earn his degree in social sciences later this spring during the first weekend in May. He'll become the first person in his family to earn a college degree.

While he continues to excel academically (he earned academic Dean's List Honors in the fall of 2024 with a 3.8 grade points average), Watkins is laser-focused on his teammates and success on the basketball court.

In less than two full seasons at Florida State, Watkins has scored 895 points (16.6 ppg), pulled down 304 rebounds (5.6 rpg), earned 138 assists (2.6 apg), and totaled 95 steals (1.8 spg). He has made 69 3-point shots and 284 free throws in the garnet and gold. His 16.6 points per game scoring average is the 17th best in school history and makes him one of just 20 players in school history to average 16.0 points or more for their entire career at Florida State.

The senior leader has scored in double-figures in 19 of 21 games this season and enters Saturday's game against Boston College ranked fourth in the ACC in scoring with a career-high 18.6 points per game scoring average. He has totaled 1,417 career points and 895 points in 54 games as a Seminole. Watkins needs just 83 points to reach 1,500 for his career and just 105 points to reach 1,000 points for his career at Florida State. Only 12 players in Florida State history have scored 1,000 or more points in 60 games or less.

The All-America candidate scored 20 points in Florida State's game at Stanford on January 25 and has scored in double figures against 16 of the Seminoles' 17 current ACC opponents in conference games. Watkins enters Saturday's game  against Boston College averaging 16.0 points in two career games against the Eagles.

His 20 points against Stanford marked the 14th time in his career that he has scored 20 or more points in a game – two 30+ point games and 12 20+ point scoring games.

Watkins has earned double-figure scoring streaks of 17 and 21 games during his Florida State career. His double-figure scoring streak of 21 consecutive games (his final 19 games of the 2023-24 season and his first two games of the 2024-25 season) ranks among the top 25 longest double-figure scoring streaks in school history.

Watkins has put himself in position to finish his career as one of the top shooters in school history.

Watkins begins play on Saturday as Florida State's current team leader in 3-point field goals made with 36. He has now made at least 33 3-point shots in each of his last three seasons (one at VCU and two at Florida State).

He has made at least one 3-point field goal in 11 consecutive games and has made a team-leading 36 3-point field goals made in his 21 games played this season. He made his single-season career-high of 36 3-point field goals as a sophomore at VCU and averages 31.5 made 3-point field goals in each year of his four-year collegiate career at VCU and Florida State.

He has also made his mark as one of the top free throw shooters in school history. He's ranked 18th in Seminole history with 284 free throws and needs just 16 made free throws to become just the 16th player in school history to make 300 career free throws.

Watkins' 19 free throws made against Tulane in the Orange Bowl on December 14, 2024 ranks as the fourth-highest single game total in school history while his 16 free throws made at NC State on December 7, 2024 is tied for the Seminole record for free throws made in an ACC game. He also holds two of the top six and four of the top 25 single-game Seminole records for free throws attempted. Watkins' 23 free throws attempted against Tulane is tied for the third highest single-game total in school history.

Watkins was a perfect 11 of 11 from the free throw line on January 9, 2024 against Wake Forest – a record for perfection that is tied for the best free throw shooting performance in a single game in the history of the program. His perfect performance against the Deacons marked just the seventh time in Florida State's ACC history that one player has been perfect from the free throw line on 10 or more shots.

His career free throw percentage in his two seasons at Florida State (.774) is tied for the 25th best career free throw shooting percentage in school history entering Saturday's game against Boston College.

Defensively, he is currently second among his Florida State teammates with a 5.0 rebounds per game average. He has 34 rebounds in the last five games (6.8 rpg) and has earned at least eight rebounds in three of the Seminoles' last five games against Pittsburgh, at Cal, and at Stanford.

Watkins has excelled in Florida State's defensive minded philosophy as he has earned 95 steals in 54 games at Florida State – an average of 1.8 steals per game. He has 159 steals during his 115-game collegiate career. Watkins' 64 steals during his first season at Florida State is tied for the 18th highest single season average in school history.

Watkins is a standout candidate to earn All-ACC honors for the second time in his career after earning All-ACC Honorable Mention honors as a junior.

The Seminoles' senior leader is well on his way to earning that honor while becoming one of the top basketball players in the history of the Florida State program.
