Men’s Tennis Splits Between ITA Sectionals, Battle at the Beach

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State men's tennis team is set to split between two tournaments starting Thursday.
The Seminoles will send Corey Craig, Erik Schiessl, and Azariah Rusher to the 16-team draw at the ITA South Sectional Championships in Athens, Georgia.
ITA SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Matches will begin each morning at 10:00 a.m. The sectionals championships include singles and doubles action. A field of 32 players will battle for six spots in the NCAA Championship.
The round of 32 will be played on Thursday, followed by the Round of 16 on Friday. Saturday will feature the all-important quarterfinal round, whose winners will punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament. Action will conclude on Sunday, with the semifinals and finals. The quarterfinal playoffs will also take place on Sunday. A consolation draw will take place over the course of the weekend as well.

BATTLE AT THE BEACH
Oren Ezerzer, Justin Lyons, Jan Sebesta, and Gabriele Brancatelli will represent Florida State at the TOPS'L Battle at the Beach in Miramar, Florida. The event will be held at the Tops'l Beach & Racquet Resort by Vacasa.
Florida State has won three of the last four tournaments, with Lyons claiming last year's individual title in 2024. Final results will be posted on Seminoles.com at the end of the weekend.
LAST TIME OUT:
Rusher delivered a strong performance in the singles main draw at the Crimson Tide Fall Challenge in Tuscaloosa.
He went 2-1 on the weekend and advanced to the final round of the singles main draw. Rusher opened with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Ole Miss's Noah Schlagenhauf, followed by a 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-0 win over Vanderbilt's Jack Satterfield. He dropped his final match to Auburn's Billy Blaydes, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (4).
In the doubles action, Ezerzer teamed up with Lokko Russell of Louisville in the round of 32 to beat Ole Miss' Gordon Whitell and Benjamin Martin 6-2 before falling to Vanderbilt's pair of Donghyun Hwang and Callum Markowitz, 4-6, in the second round.
Rusher also partnered with Lyons for a 6-4 victory over Auburn's Billy and Freddy Blaydes.
