FSU to Begin Season with Top-10 Rankings, Preseason Honors

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State baseball team will begin the 2025 season on Friday ranked inside the top-10 nationally in each major poll, while junior pitcher Jamie Arnold's preseason national pitcher of the year honors headline's the team's individual preseason awards.
Coming off a College World Series appearance in 2024, the Seminoles are ranked No. 9 in the preseason top-25 by D1Baseball and No. 6 by Baseball America, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), the USA Today Coaches Poll, Perfect Game and Baseball Central. The Athletic has FSU at No. 7.
Arnold has garnered a lengthy list of preseason accolades. On Friday, he was named to the preseason watch list for the Golden Spikes Award by USA Baseball, which annually honors the top amateur baseball player in the country. He was named the Preseason Pitcher of the Year by Baseball America Perfect Game
The junior left-hander was recognized as a Preseason First Team All-America selection by Baseball America, D1Baseball, NCBWA, Perfect Game and The Athletic. The Baseball America distinction was unanimous.
Junior right-handed pitcher Cam Leiter was named a Preseason Third Team All-American by Baseball America.
In the ACC standings, the league's head coaches picked FSU second in the ACC Preseason Coaches Poll, as did Baseball America. D1Baseball pegged FSU at No. 3
Additionally, Baseball America, D1Baseball and Perfect Game all bestowed Arnold with Preseason ACC Pitcher of the Year honors and BA and PG tabbed freshman catcher Hunter Carns with Preseason ACC Freshman of the Year accolades. Perfect Game also named Arnold to its Preseason All-ACC Team.
D1Baseball selected its top 50 players at each position to begin the season. Arnold leads the way as the No. 1-ranked pitcher. FSU has two catchers recognized, with junior Jaxson West at No. 19 and Carns at 38th. Juniors Drew Faurot and Alex Lodise both check in at 27th on the second baseman and shortstop rankings, respectively. Fellow junior Max Williams is No. 29 on the top-100 outfielder's list, and at first base, freshman Myles Bailey is 32nd. Sophomore Cal Fisher is ranked 34th among third basemen.
Joining Arnold on the mound is sophomore Peyton Prescott at No. 41 among relievers and redshirt junior Joey Volini at 48th among starters. A total of 150 starters and 100 relievers were ranked, with redshirt senior Connor Hults (No. 88) and sophomore John Abraham (No. 96) appearing on the reliever's list and sophomore Wes Mendes (No. 144) also making the list of top starters.
The Athletic listed Arnold at No. 1 on its list of the 10 best pitchers and fourth on its Golden Spikes Award favorites list. The outlet also named Carns third on a list of 10 impact freshmen.
