No. 5 FSU Suffers First Loss

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 5 Florida State baseball team suffered its first loss of the season, 7-2 to No. 7 Florida on Tuesday night at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida.
The defeat snapped FSU's 15-game win streak to begin the season, tied for the fourth-longest in team history. The Seminoles were one of two unbeaten teams left in the country entering Tuesday's contest.
Facing its first ranked opponent of the season, Florida State (15-1) was held to a season-low two runs on six hits with one error. Florida (16-2) scored seven runs on eight hits with no errors. FSU did not score first for the first time this season and trailed for only the second time, along with a half-inning deficit on February 26 at Jacksonville.
With the loss, the Seminoles saw their three-game win streak against the Gators come to an end. FSU holds a 134-128-1 lead in the all-time series and a 72-43-1 advantage in Tallahassee. Tuesday was the first top-10 matchup between the two in-state foes since March 12, 2019, when No. 6 Florida State traveled to No. 7 UF.
Junior second baseman Drew Faurot and freshman first baseman Myles Bailey both homered in the game, their team-high-tying fourth in 2025. It was Faurot's 25th career long ball. Junior right fielder Gage Harrelson led the team with two hits to extend his hit streak to a career-best 16 games, as he has hit safely in every game of his FSU career. Junior shortstop Alex Lodise saw his career-best 14-game hit streak snapped, but his reached-base streak was extended to 15 games.
Junior right-handed starter Evan Chrest suffered his first loss and is 2-1.
Florida took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a two-out single. That scored an unearned run, as a leadoff hit batter was followed by a throwing error on a failed pickoff attempt to put the runner at second.
UF made it 4-0 in the fifth. A sacrifice fly brought in the first run, followed by an RBI double that ricochetted off the first base bag and a two-out run-scoring single.
The Seminoles got a run back in the bottom of the fifth, as Faurot homered off the top of the wall down the left-field line. The solo shot came with two outs.
Redshirt senior right-hander Joe Charles came on in relief in the top of the sixth inning and got three outs to strand runners on second and third to keep it a three-run game.
A two-run home run in the seventh added to the Gators' lead to make it 6-1. After FSU left two on in the bottom of the seventh, UF scored one in the eighth on a bases-loaded groundout. The visitors loaded the bases with no outs in the inning but were held to one run by redshirt freshman left-hander Payton Manca and sophomore righty Chris Knier.
Bailey homered to right with one out in the ninth, but the solo home run was the last run for a 7-2 final.
The Seminoles open ACC action this weekend against Boston College.
