No. 8 Seminoles Finish Day One of East vs. West Tournament 2-0

MANHATTAN BEACH – The No. 8 Florida State beach volleyball team finished day one of the East vs. West Tournament with two victories over top 20 teams. The Seminoles defeated No. 7 Cal 3-2 and No. 18 Hawaii 4-1 in Manhattan Beach on Friday.
Carra Sassack and Bailey Higgins struck first for the Seminoles as they won court four in straight sets. The Golden Bears quickly bounced back and won court two. Audrey Koenig and Alexis Durish then regained the lead on court one, winning the match 21-17, 21-15. The Golden Bears continued fighting winning a competitive three set match on court four to tie the duel. Makenna Wolfe and Myriah Massey outlasted Cal on court four to win 25-27, 21-19, 15-9 and clinch the duel for the Noles. FSU now leads the Golden Bears 2-1 all-time.
The Seminoles continued their momentum as they defeated Hawaii 4-1. FSU won all four matches in straight sets. The match was highlighted by a dominant performance on court one, as Koenig and Durish downed the Rainbow Wahine 21-6, 21-11.
Florida State will be back in action at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturday to play No. 1 UCLA, then again at 4:00 p.m. against No. 2 LMU. Live stats will be available on Seminoles.com.
