No. 24 Noles Fall to No. 16 Duke

TALLAHASSEE – The No. 24 Florida State women's basketball team (23-7, 13-5 ACC) fell to No. 16 Duke (23-6, 14-4 ACC) on Senior Day at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center, falling 71-57 in an intense match up on Sunday.
Makayla Timpson led the team, posting 25 points and eight rebounds, while O'Mariah Gordon and Ta'Niya Latson each contributed nine. Malea Williams brought energy to floor, scoring seven points, six rebounds and one block.
With both teams fighting for the No. 3 seed in the ACC Tournament, Duke jumped in front early, 19-13, but the Seminoles fought back, outscoring the Blue Devils 18-13 in the second, as Latson and Valezuela each contributed five points. FSU pulled within one at the break, 32-31.
Duke added a quick four points to start the second half, but FSU rallied and took the advantage after Gordon scored on the fast break, 38-37. The teams traded leads, but Duke took the advantage after the third quarter, 49-47.
In a game that saw nine lead changes and both teams limiting turnovers, a late surge from Duke in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference as the Noles fell, 71-57.
Prior to the game, the Seminoles were awarded the No. 4 seed in the ACC Tournament and will play on Friday on ESPN2 at 11 a.m. No. 5 North Carolina will face either No. 12 Boston College or No. 13 Syracuse on Thursday, with the winner advancing to meet the Noles.
