Beach Volleyball Drops Two Top 10 Matchups

SAN LUIS OBISPO – The No. 7 Florida State beach volleyball team dropped back-to back matches on day one of the Center of Effort Challenge in San Luis Obispo, California, on Friday. The Seminoles came up short to No. 6 USC and No. 5 Stanford.
In the tournament opener, the Seminoles fell to USC 4-1. The Trojans won three courts in straight sets. Gella Andrew and Maddie Trusty put up a strong fight on court two, pushing the match to a third set before the match was ultimately decided by the Trojans. Makenna Wolfe and Myriah Massey earned the Seminoles' lone point on court five by a score of 22-24, 27-25, 16-14.
Florida State then suffered a 4-1 loss to Stanford. Alexis Durish and Audrey Koenig struck first on court one, winning in straight sets. The Cardinal then won courts three, four, and five in straight sets to win the dual. Trusty and Andrew delivered another scrappy performance on court two, falling to the pair of Avery Jackson and Brooke Rockwell 17-21, 21-19, 15-6.
FSU will be back in action against No. 3 Cal Poly at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time. The tournament finals will begin at 5:00 p.m. Live stats will be available on Seminoles.com.
