No. 64 Seminoles Fall in Regular Season Finale to No. 6 North Carolina

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The No. 64 Florida State women's tennis team (13-9, 4-8 ACC) fell in the final match of the regular season to No. 6 North Carolina (20-4, 11-1) 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Chewning Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Court 1 doubles featured No. 76-ranked Eva Shaw and Maria Juliana Parra Romero and No. 8-ranked Reese Brantmeier and Alanis Hamilton of North Carolina. Shaw and Parra Romero led for an early portion of the match, beginning with a 2-1 lead and swapping games up until the 5-5 tie in which the Tar Heel duo prevailed to take the match 7-5.

The Tar Heels won on all three doubles courts to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles.

Freshman Mary Boyce Deatherage won her first set tiebreaker on Court 4 in singles for the Noles, which was ultimately decided by a 10-8 finish. Deatherage was tied 4-4 in the second set when the match concluded.

North Carolina went on to win Courts 2, 3, and 5 in singles, earning a 4-0 match victory.
After losing her opening set, Shaw won her second set 6-4, and was leading 2-0 in the third set over No. 4 Brantmeier when the match concluded.

The Seminoles now focus on the ACC Women's Tennis Championship in Cary, North Carolina. FSU will play in the second round of the tournament on Wednesday, with the time and opponent still to be determined.
