TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State baseball junior left-handed pitcher Jamie Arnold was selected with the 11th overall pick by the Athletics in the first round of the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft on Sunday evening.

Arnold is the 11th top-15 MLB draft pick in program history and the third pitcher. He's the program's highest overall selection since Buster Posey went No. 5 overall in 2008 and the highest-drafted pitcher since Jonathan Johnson was seventh in 1995.

From Tampa, Florida, Arnold is the 23rd first rounder in FSU history and the third in the last two years, joining James Tibbs III (13th overall) and Cam Smith (14th overall) in 2024. It's the third time in school history that Florida State has had three or more first round draft picks in a two-year stretch, along with 1991-93 (two in 1992 and one in both 1991 and 1993) and 1994-95 (two in 1995 and one in 1994). Florida State has now had a first round selection in consecutive years on five occasions, with 2024-25 being joined by a five-year run from 1991-95, 1997-98, 2011-12 and 2014-15.

Arnold is the 17th FSU player selected by the Athletics organization and first since Boomer Biegalski in the 14th round in 2015. Biegalski also was the last Seminole pitcher drafted by the A's, as Arnold is the 12th pitcher selected by the club. Arnold is the third first round pick and highest overall, joining Tom Cook (12th overall in 1968) and John Wasdin (25th overall in 1993). Eddie Howell, also a pitcher, was the first Florida State player selected by the Athletics in 1966.

The first Seminole to be named a consensus All-American in back-to-back years since Parker Messick from 2021-22, Arnold's 12 total All-America honors in 2024 and 2025 headline a long list of awards earned as a Seminole. He is a two-time First Team All-Region and First Team All-ACC awardee and was twice named a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy and Golden Spikes Award. The Tallahassee Regional Most Outstanding Player each of the last two years, Arnold also was a Pitcher of the Year finalist in 2024.

Arnold is 21-10 in his three-year Florida State career with a 3.61 ERA in 234.1 innings and 58 appearances. He has allowed 94 earned runs on 198 hits with 327 strikeouts and 80 walks with a .227 opponent's batting average. Arnold's 327 strikeouts are No. 8 in school history.

In his junior season in 2024, Arnold boasted an 8-2 record and finished 12th in the country in strikeouts (119) and 17th in strikeouts per nine innings (12.65). He was third in the ACC in in ERA (2.98), WHIP (1.06) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.41), fourth in hits allowed per nine innings (6.70) and sixth in wins (8). In 15 starts, Arnold allowed 28 earned runs on 63 hits in 84.2 innings with 27 walks and a .208 opponent batting average.

Arnold helped lead Florida State to its first College World Series berth in five years in 2024 and a Super Regional appearance and FSU's first ACC runner-up finish in 11 years in 2025.
