TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State cross country teams open the season on Friday, Aug. 29, at the Florida Intercollegiate Invite in Jacksonville.

The women's 5k will start at 7:00 p.m., followed by the men's 8k at 7:30 p.m. at Cecil Field. Live timing will be available.

Friday's meet marks the Seminoles' first of two in-state contests throughout the 2025 campaign. Florida State will host the Seminole Invite on Friday, Oct. 26, at Apalachee Regional Park.

Season openers are always exciting, FSU head coach Matt Kane said. It is a chance to see the offseason work that the kids put in and their first chance to gauge where they are at fitness-wise. I look forward to our first opportunity to see some newcomers in the FSU jersey as well.

The Seminoles will field 10 men and 8 women in the first meet of the season.

Bieke Schipperen comes off a sophomore season as the women's team top runner in all six cross country appearances. The junior also claimed her first career All-ACC honor before collecting an All-Region performance nod at the NCAA South Region Championship after placing fifth. Schipperen helped the Seminoles earn an at-large bid at the NCAA National Championship.

The men's squad will be led by Lucas Bouquot, who made an appearance at the NCAA South Regional Championship in 2024. Bouquot will be joined by Kaden Levings, who collected his first career win at the 2024 GT Invitational and was awarded ACC Performer of the Week honors for his efforts.

New Seminoles
The men's squad welcomes five freshmen to the team: Parker Adams, Anoil Borras Torramilians, Isaac Hirshman ChandlerGino Palazzolo, and Aidan Ryan. The women have added Rylee Blade and Margaret Bartlow to the roster.

The USTFCCCA released its preseason polls on Monday. The women were selected 27th in the preseason national rankings, while the men were picked to finish eighth in the South Region.
The ACC also released its order of finish on Aug. 21. The women were selected seventh in the league (207), while the men were tied for ninth (131).
