Six days before conference play begins, the Seminoles (3-0) turned in their second consecutive win of more than 50 points. FSU got started with a school-record-tying 35 points in the first quarter, with scores on its first five possessions, and never looked back in the afternoon victory over the Golden Flashes (1-3).
FSU had 775 yards of total offense, a program-record 498 on the ground and 277 through the air. Meanwhile, the defense held KSU to 206 yards offensively, 163 passing and 43 rushing. Florida State converted all but once on third down (nine-for-10), and had 37 first downs with 9.9 average yards per play. The team scored nine touchdowns, with a team-record eight on the ground, and was a perfect eight-for-eight inside the red zone.
Running back Gavin Sawchuck ran for 97 yards on 11 carries with two touchdowns, and fellow running back Samuel Singleton Jr. rushed for 86 yards on 10 carries and also ran it in for two touchdowns. Wide receiver Micahi Danzy scored a touchdown on a 64-yard run, and running back Kam Davis also found the endzone for his first career touchdown on four rushes for 30 yards.
Quarterback Tommy Castellanos was 10-for-13 passing for 205 yards. He added two rushing touchdowns, running for 54 yards on seven carries.
Danzy accumulated 176 yards of total offense, on two catches for 112 yards and one run for 64 yards, all in the first quarter.
Defensively, four Seminoles had four total tackles, including defensive back Earl Little Jr., who notched two solo tackles. Linebacker Omar Graham Jr. had three tackles, all solo. Defensive back Jerry Wilson added an interception in the win, his second pick of the season.
For the second consecutive game – a first in program history – FSU did not punt in the contest.
The game was delayed for nearly 40 minutes late in the second quarter due to weather.
The Seminoles needed just four plays to take a 7-0 lead, as the opening drive that lasted 81 seconds was punctuated by Sawchuk's four-yard touchdown run. He had runs on three of the four plays on the 65-yard drive, beginning with a 40-yard rush on the opening play from scrimmage.
After a three-and-out by the defense, Florida State doubled the lead on its next drive as Castellanos ran it in for the 12-yard score. The eight play, 95-yard drive took 3:23 and started with a 47-yard pass from Castellanos to Danzy.
Kent State cut its deficit in half on its next possession on a 75-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-7.
FSU wasted no time with an answer, as a 65-yard pass from Castellanos to Danzy was followed by a 10-yard touchdown run by Castellanos. The two-play, 75-yard drive took just 35 seconds and made it a 21-7 game.
The defense notched another three-and-out to set up Florida State's third touchdown drive to extend the lead to 28-7. Danzy again had the big play, with a 64-yard touchdown run to conclude the seven-play drive that went 84 yards in 2:47.
After KSU was forced to punt, FSU got the ball back at the opposing 47 yard line and quickly added to its lead to make it 35-7. Sawchuk ran it in for the two-yard touchdown after a four-play, 47-yard drive in just 1:14.
A sack for a defensive stop on fourth-and-four at the Florida State 25-yard line gave the Seminoles the ball back with 6:27 left in the second quarter. Nine plays later, Singleton Jr. ran it in for a 15-yard touchdown to cap the drive that took more than four minutes. That extended the lead to 42-7 with 2:16 left in the half.
An interception gave the ball back to the FSU offense with 35 seconds left in the half on its own 46 yardline. Six plays later, a 25-yard field goal by kicker Jake Weinberg as time expired on the half made it 45-7.
A Kent State punt on the opening drive of the third quarter set up another Florida State touchdown drive to extend the lead to 52-7. It was another rushing score, as Davis took it in from a yard out. The seven play, 75-yard drive that took 3:33 featured two pass completions from quarterback Kevin Sperry.
A KSU four-and-out set up another Seminole touchdown drive that made it 59-7. FSU converted three times on third down, including with a two-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brock Glenn to tight end Landen Thomas with 5:02 left in the third quarter. The score concluded a 10-play, 58-yard drive in 4:02.
The Golden Flashes began the fourth quarter with a 38-yard field goal to make it 59-10. The three points came at the end of a 14-yard drive that lasted more than seven minutes.
Florida State responded right back with the final points of the day, a 37-yard run by Singleton Jr. to make it 66-10. With 8:20 left in the game, the touchdown wrapped up a seven-play, 65-yard drive in 4:21.
Up next, the Seminoles are on the road for the first time in 2025 with a Friday night matchup at Virginia. Kickoff on September 26 is at 7 p.m. ET in a contest broadcast live on ESPN.
