Big Third Quarter Lifts Noles Over Mustangs, 73-51

DALLAS - The Florida State women's basketball team (7-13, 2-6 ACC) defeated SMU (8-12, 1-7 ACC) by a final score of 73-51 on Thursday at the Moody Coliseum.

After leading by six at the half, 30-24, the Seminoles outscored the Mustangs 24-13 in the third quarter to put away the game. 
 
In front of her hometown crowd, Jasmine Shavers led all scorers with 22 points, tying her career high with six three-pointers made. She added six rebounds.  

Pania Davis, who finished with her third double-double of the season, finished with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Sole Williams added 12 points and six assists, while Tatum Greene chipped in nine points and nine rebounds. 

Florida State finished the night 12-of-30 from three, marking the sixth time this season the Noles sank 10 or more three-pointers. 
 
Shavers opened the game scoring 11 points in the first.  Davis added seven rebounds, while Williams handed out three assists, helping Florida State take a 16–12 lead at the end of the opening quarter.
 
The Seminoles totaled 14 points in the second quarter, as Shavers and Davis scored six each.  Davis also grabbed three additional rebounds, giving her 10 at the break. Shavers led the Seminoles with 17 points, going 5-of-6 from three in the first half. 
 
Florida State opened the second half on an 11-point run, fueled by 10 third-quarter points from Williams and six from Emma Risch, to take a 54–37 lead heading into the fourth.
 
In the final quarter, the Noles tallied 19 more points, including five points and three rebounds from Davis. Florida State closed the final five minutes on a seven-point run to secure a 73–51 victory.
 
The Seminoles will face Georgia Tech on Sunday, Jan. 25. The game will air on the ACC Network at 4 p.m. at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center.
