Seminoles Begin Outdoor Season at Home

3/25/2026 11:37:00 AM | Men's Track and Field, Track and Field, Women's Track and Field

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State track and field teams will open its outdoor season with two days of competition March 26 and 27 at the Terry Long FSU Relays. The relays are the first of two home meets this season and admission and parking is free to all spectators.

Florida State named the home meet after lifelong coach Terry Long last year, who was head coach for the Seminoles from 1988-2003. Before his record-setting coaching career, Long was a track athlete at Florida State from 1959-1963, setting school records in the 220 low hurdles and 120 high hurdles in addition to several relay team records.

Over his 15-year tenure at FSU as a coach, he coached 10 teams that won either Metro or ACC Championships and was voted conference or region Coach of the Year 14 times. He coached 272 all-conference athletes, nine Olympians and 82 All-America performances.

After a legendary career, Long was inducted into the FSU Hall of Fame in 2005.

The meet will begin for the Seminoles on Thursday, starting with Cooper Crowell in the men's hammer at 3:00 p.m., followed by Lorelai Filosa in the women's high jump.

The women's 4x100-meter will begin the evening session for the running events at 6:05 p.m. The first day will conclude with the 5,000 meters at 7:00 p.m. On the women's side, Maggie Bartlow, Ava Povich, and Lily Guinn are set to compete. Representing the men will be Kaden Levings, Finn Thomas, Gino Palazzolo, and Garrett Stickley. On the women's side, Maggie Bartlow, Ava Povich, and Lily Guinn are set to compete. Last year's edition of the meet saw the Seminoles record eight first-place finishes and six top 10 all-time performances in Florida State history, highlighted by Micahi Danzy, who is set to compete in the men's 4x100 and 4x400 relays this weekend. Danzy went on to capture his first ACC gold medal in the men's 400 at the 2025 ACC Outdoor Championship.

The Tallahassee native became the first dual-sport student-athlete in Florida State history from football and track to win conference gold in the 400, delivering a historic performance of 44.38. The Tallahassee native reset the FSU school record while also claiming the ACC meet and conference record, surpassing the previous mark set in 2024.

Live results will be available through pttiming.

LAST TIME OUT:
The Seminoles ended their indoor season on March 14 at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships as Shenese Walker was crowned the women's 60-meter National Champion.

Walker, a three-time First-Team All-American, powered through the first round with a blistering 7.07, setting both a new school and ACC record. Her preliminary mark ties for the 13th-fastest performance in collegiate history and ranks fifth all-time in Division I history.

Walker became just the second Florida State athlete to win a national title in the event and the first since Tonya Carter in 2000. The Jamaican native's victory also marks Florida State's 24th individual national champion of all-time and the program's first since Kimberly Williams in 2011.

On the men's side, Florida State won the ACC Indoor Track & Field championship title for the 15th time in program history. In FSU's first league title since 2020, the men's team scored 94 points at the TRACK at New Balance in Boston.
