Mendes Recognized as ACC Pitcher of the Week

TALLAHASSEE – Florida State baseball junior left-handed starter Wes Mendes has been named the ACC Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the conference on March 30.
It's the third ACC weekly accolade in as many weeks for the Seminoles, after fellow junior lefty Trey Beard was honored with Pitcher of the Week honors on March 14 and sophomore first baseman Myles Bailey was the Player of the Week on March 23.
It's the first ACC award of Mendes' career. Two weeks ago, on March 16, he was named the Perfect Game Co-Pitcher of the Week and to Baseball America's National Team of the Week, sharing both honors with Beard. Mendes also was on the College Baseball Foundation's National Pitcher of the Year Watch List in 2026.
Mendes helped Florida State, now ranked No. 7 nationally, to a series win over Duke last weekend, the team's third series victory in three weeks to begin ACC play. FSU is off to a 7-2 start or better in the conference in back-to-back years for the first time since a five-year stretch from 2012-16.
In a 3-1 win over Duke on March 27, Mendes struck out a career-high-tying 12 batters in 6.2 shutout innings. He improved to 6-1 on the season, one win shy of tying his career high, and allowed just four hits with one walk. Mendes struck out multiple batters in four innings, including three punch-outs in the third. On two occasions an inning-ending strikeout left a runner on third. Mendes posted double-digit strikeouts for the third time in his last four outings and did not allow a run for the fourth time in his seven starts in 2026. He threw a season-high 104 pitches, one short of matching his career high.
