Seminoles Claim Doubles Point, Fall 4-1 at Wake Forest

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State women's tennis team (4-9, 0-4 ACC) fell 4-1 to No. 66 Wake Forest (8-7, 1-3) on Sunday afternoon at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The Seminoles secured the doubles point for the sixth time in their last seven matches. On Court 1, Eva Shaw and Tina Li jumped out to a commanding 4-0 lead before Wake Forest responded by winning three of the next four games. Leading 5-3, Shaw and Li closed out the match with a 6-3 win to give FSU its first doubles victory of the day.
On Court 3, Cade Cricchio and Mary Boyce Deatherage battled to a 3-2 lead through the opening five games. With Wake Forest tying the match at 5-5 after winning the 10th game, Cricchio and Deatherage responded by winning the final two games to secure a 7-5 victory and clinch the doubles point for Florida State.
In singles play, the Seminoles captured the opening set on Courts 1, 2, 3 and 5. Wake Forest responded by earning straight-set victories on Courts 4 and 6 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
The Demon Deacons went on to win the second and third sets on Courts 2 and 5 to secure the 4-1 victory.
Shaw and Li improved to 3-1 in ACC play this season and are now 5-1 overall as a doubles pair.
Florida State returns to action Sunday when it travels to face No. 39 Miami (6-2, 3-0) at the Neill Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Florida. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
