Track & Field Returns Home for Dick Roberts Seminole Invite

TALLAHASSEE – The No. 20/23 Florida State track and field teams will continue its outdoor season this weekend, returning home for the Dick Roberts Seminole Invite on April 10-11. The meet is named in honor of former Florida State athlete and coach Dick Roberts.
Coach Roberts spent over two decades coaching at FSU. After graduating in 1964, he stayed on campus as a graduate assistant for two years, earning his master's degree in 1966. He then coached at Dunedin High School before returning to Florida State in 1970, where he served as an academic advisor for all athletes, as well as head cross country coach and assistant track and field coach.
Roberts led his 1980 team to a third-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championship, marking the highest in school history at the time. During his tenure, he coached four national champions and 36 athletes who combined for 74 All-American honors. His teams were dominant in the Metro Conference, never losing a championship, and compiled an overall record of 119-31-2 in scored meets.
In cross country, Roberts guided FSU to eight top-20 finishes, including five top-10 placements nationally. Over 15 years as a coach, he led 10 teams to Metro or ACC titles and was named conference or regional Coach of the Year 14 times. He coached 272 all-conference athletes, nine Olympians, and oversaw 82 All-America performances.
Roberts is a member of the Florida Track and Field Hall of Fame and earned NCAA District III Coach of the Year honors twice, along with six Metro Conference Coach of the Year awards. He also served two years as president of the NCAA Track and Field Coaches Association.
After a legendary career, Long was inducted into the FSU Hall of Fame in 1989.
The meet will begin for Florida State with senior Cooper Crowell in the men's hammer throw at 3:00 p.m. The 4x100-meter relay will open up the running portion of the meet at 6:15 p.m.
The Seminoles competed at the Florida Relays in Gainesville on April 3-4, while the distance squad was on display at the Stanford Invite in California.
Rylee Blade was honored as the ACC Women's Freshman of the Week for her efforts at the Stanford Invite. Blade went back to her roots in California to compete in the Stanford Invitational on April 3. The Corona, California, native competed in section two of the women's 5,000-meters after placing fourth as the top freshman and ACC runner with a time of 15:39.71. Blade's time currently stands as the fourth-fastest time in program history and ranks third in the conference this season.
Andre Korbmacher captured his first victory of the season in the 110 hurdles and will make his home debut in the event. Korbmacher tied his personal best time and remained at fifth all-time in FSU history at 13.47. Zach Extine and fifth year Tyson Williams will also compete alongside Korbmacher.
Shamar Reid will look to continue his win streak in the discus throw, after earning his second consecutive win in the event at the Florida Relays over the weekend. The transfer junior matched his personal best and remained steady at No. 2 all-time in program history with a throw of 16.65 meters.
Bieke Schipperen is set to highlight the distance events in the 1,500 and 800. Schipperen and Blade both competed at the Stanford Invite in the women's 5,000 meters with a new personal best. Schipperen set the third fastest-time in program history at 15:35.58.
Isaac Hirshman Chandler was a highlight at the ACC Indoor Conference Championship, capturing a crucial point for Florida State to clinch the 15th title in program history. He ran the 5,000 at the Stanford Invite, placing sixth overall with the fifth-fastest time in program history at 13:41.72.
