Whaley Leads Noles in First Round of NCAA Championship

CARLSBAD, Calif. -  The No. 23 Florida State men's golf team opened play at the 2026 NCAA Championships on Friday at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California.

The Seminoles started the first round early off the first tee and were led by Jack Whaley, who finished the day even par, 72.

In his NCAA debut, Whaley carded nine pars to start the round, but found some momentum with back-to-back birdies on holes 10 and 11. As the wind picked up on the back nine, Whaley saw two bogeys down the stretch to finish even.

With the afternoon wave still out on the course, Whaley sits tied for 33rd place, three strokes out of third place.

Carson Brewer finished the day 5-over, 77 ahead of Wilmer Edero at 6-over, 78. Jack Bigham was 8-over, 80.

FSU will be paired with Georgia and Southern California for the second round on Saturday. Florida State will start the day on No. 10 at 3:12 p.m. ET at 19-over, 307. Third round tee times and pairings will be determined by standing.

The top 15 teams after the third round will advance to the final round of stroke play on Monday. The top eight teams will advance to match play, beginning June 2.

The first three rounds of stroke play will be streamed through Babygrande and live scoring will be available on Scoreboard.  Stroke play on Monday will air on the Golf Channel.
