Abraham and Mendes Earn First All-America Accolades

TALLAHASSEE – Florida State baseball junior pitchers John Abraham and Wes Mendes earned All-America honors on Tuesday.
Mendes was recognized as an All-American by two organizations, on Perfect Game's Second Team and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Third Team, and the NCBWA named Abraham to its Second Team.
The All-America distinctions are the first of Abraham and Mendes' careers, as Perfect Game and the NCBWA are the first two outlets to announce their All-America teams for 2026.
Abraham, a right-handed reliever, and Mendes, a left-handed starter, are the latest in the long list of Florida State All-Americans. The Seminoles have had at least one player earn All-America honors in all but one season since 1975 and two or more players every year except for one since 1983. For the first time since 2003, multiple pitchers are bestowed with first, second or third team All-America distinction. Two pitchers were recognized in 2021 and 2022, but one earned freshman accolades each year.
On Tuesday, Abraham and Mendes were named to the ABCA Southeast All-Region First Team. Mendes is the ACC Pitcher of the Year, the third in program history, and Abraham is the second FSU pitcher to be named a finalist for the NCBWA Stopper of the Year. Both are All-ACC honorees, Mendes on the First Team and Abraham on the Third Team. Mendes also was a Dick Howser Trophy and National Pitcher of the Year semifinalist and earned two ACC Pitcher of the Week accolades and several National Team of the Week honors.
Abraham was third in the ACC with six saves in 2026, all coming in ACC play which was tied for second-most in the league. In 19 appearances and 47.0 innings pitched, he notched a 1.91 ERA, the best on the team with more than 6.0 innings pitched. Abraham struck out 58 batters, fourth-most on the team and tied for the most among relievers. A Tampa, Florida, native, he allowed 10 earned runs on 32 hits with 24 walks and posted a 1.19 WHIP while holding opponents to a .190 batting average.
Mendes is among the nation's leaders in strikeouts (125, No. 12 NCAA, No. 1 ACC), WHIP (1.02, No. 15/1), complete games (2, No. 15/1) wins (9, No. 25/6) and starts (16, No. 26/2). He was third in the ACC with a 2.81 ERA and No. 4 with 6.77 hits allowed per nine innings, a 5.00 strikeout-to-walk ratio and 12.10 strikeouts per nine innings. In ACC games, Mendes led the league with 62.1 innings pitched and 79 strikeouts and also was in the top 10 in fewest home runs allowed (4), ERA (3.32), opponent batting average (.223), wins (5) and fewest walks allowed (16). From Tampa, Florida, Mendes posted a 9-3 record and led the team with 93.0 innings pitched while allowing 29 earned runs on 70 hits with a .207 opponent batting average.
Abraham and Mendes helped the Seminoles to a 40-19 season in 2026. Florida State reached the 40-win mark for the third consecutive year after a four-year gap without 40 wins from 2020-23. Finishing third in the ACC, the team was 19-11 with eight series wins, both the best totals since 2014 outside of the extended 2021 season. FSU made its 62nd NCAA appearance, second-most all-time, and hosted an NCAA Regional for the 38th time, the most in the country. Florida State is one of three teams to host a regional each of the last three years.
