TALLAHASSEE – Florida State baseball junior right-handed reliever John Abraham has been named a finalist for the Stopper of the Year Award by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) on Thursday.

The second FSU player to be recognized as a finalist for the award since its inception in 2005, Abraham is the first since 2012, when Robert Benincasa was a finalist. The Stopper of the Year is presented annually to the top NCAA Division I relief pitcher.

Abraham was third in the ACC with six saves in 2026, all coming in ACC play which was tied for second-most in the league. In 19 appearances and 47.0 innings pitched, he notched a 1.91 ERA, the best on the team with more than 6.0 innings pitched. Abraham struck out 58 batters, fourth-most on the team and tied for the most among relievers. He allowed 10 earned runs on 32 hits with 24 walks and posted a 1.19 WHIP and held opponents to a .190 batting average.

Two weeks ago, Abraham earned Third Team All-ACC accolades. He was a Midseason All-America First Team honoree by D1Baseball and Perfect Game.

The Tampa, Florida, native is one of two finalists from the ACC in 2026.

Abraham helped the Seminoles to a 40-19 season in 2026. Florida State reached the 40-win mark for the third consecutive year, all three with Abraham on the roster, after a four-year gap without 40 wins from 2020-23. Finishing third in the ACC, the team was 19-11 with eight series wins, both the best totals since 2014 outside of the extended 2021 season. FSU made its 62nd NCAA appearance, second-most all-time, and hosted an NCAA Regional for the 38th time, the most in the country. Florida State was one of three teams to host a regional each of the last three years.
