TALLAHASSEE – Florida State baseball junior center fielder Brayden Dowd has been drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the third round of the 2026 MLB Draft on Sunday afternoon.

Dowd is the 88th overall pick and is the third FSU player selected through the first three rounds of the 20-round draft. He is joined by junior left-handed starter Wes Mendes and sophomore first baseman Myles Bailey, both drafted in the second round by the Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs, respectively.

With Mendes, Bailey and Dowd, FSU has three or more draft picks in the first three rounds for just the third time in school history, along with 2025 (four) and 1992 (three). The Seminoles have had two or more players picked in the first three rounds nine times, with 1991-92 and 2025-26 the only two drafts that feat has been accomplished in consecutive seasons.

From Clarkston, Michigan, Dowd is the 10th Florida State player picked by the Diamondbacks and first since Tyler Holton in 2018. Dowd is the second outfielder selected by Arizona.

Dowd earned Third Team All-ACC accolades as a junior in 2026, and he was named to the Academic All-District Team and the All-ACC Academic Team. In his first season at Florida State, Dowd led the team with 13 doubles, 52 runs scored, 51 walks and a .456 on-base percentage and was second with 54 hits, 10 home runs, 36 RBI and a .527 slugging percentage. Starting all 51 games he played in, primarily in center field, Dowd hit .293. His 25 walks were 25th-most in the country.

The 2026 MLB Draft continues with the first four rounds on Saturday, July 11, before rounds 5-20 on Sunday, July 12.

Dowd helped the Seminoles to a 40-19 season in 2026. Florida State reached the 40-win mark for the third consecutive year after a four-year gap without 40 wins from 2020-23. Finishing third in the ACC, the team was 19-11 with eight series wins, both the best totals since 2014 outside of the extended 2021 season. FSU made its 62nd NCAA appearance, second-most all-time, and hosted an NCAA Regional for the 38th time, the most in the country. Florida State is one of three teams to host a regional each of the last three years.
