No. 20 Noles Head to Olympia Fields Fighting Illini Invitational

TALLAHASSEE – The No. 20 Florida State men's golf team will compete in the Olympia Fields Country Club Fighting Illini Invitational, running from Sept. 18-20. In its 20th season, the tournament will be held on the par 70, 7,215-yard South Course at the Olympia Fields Country Club for the first time due to the renovation of the North Course.
Among the 15 teams in the field, 11 are ranked in the Golf Coaches Association of America preseason poll, including the Noles at No. 20. Florida State won the event one time in its history, taking the crown in 2015.
The Seminoles will compete as a team for the first time this season after fielding four individuals at the Folds of Honor Collegiate. Shawn Coultoff secured a top 10 finish in his debut outing; finishing tied for ninth place behind rounds of 67, 73 and 79, carding 4-under, 209 for the tournament. It was the best finish in a debut for a Seminole since Jack Bigham placed fourth at the Maui Jim in 2022.
FSU adds Tyler Weaver and Jack Whaley back into the lineup after the duo helped Great Britain and Ireland win the Walker Cup over the Americans, 13 ½ - 12 ½ at the Lahinch Golf Club in Ireland. Both Weaver and Whaley provided wins in Sunday Singles that pulled GB&I to victory. Whaley was dominant, defeating William Jennings 8&7 in what was the largest singles win in Walker Cup history for GB&I. Weaver defeated Jay Leng Jr. 4&3.
Florida State will be paired with No. 12 Illinois and No. 1 Florida to start the tournament at 9:00 a.m. ET from the first tee on Friday. Live scoring can be found on Scoreboard.
