Whaley Leads No.20 Noles at Olympia Fields

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – The No. 20 Florida State men's golf team opened play at the 20th annual Olympia Fields Fighting Illini Invitational on Friday, which is being held at the South Course at the Olympia Fields Country Club.
Due to inclement weather expected in the area over the weekend, 36 holes was scheduled to be played on Friday. Play in the second round was called due to darkness for 20 of the 37 groups, however the Seminoles finished both rounds and sit at 6-under, 554.
Jack Whaley led the team, turning in rounds of 1-under, 69 and 2-under, 68. In the first round, Whaley carded three birdies, including back-to-back strikes on holes 17 and 18 to finish the round. After a bogey on the fourth, Whaley found momentum as he made the turn with back-to-back birdies on eight and nine, to climb to 2-under. Whaley moved to 3-under after birdie on the 14th on the par 3 161-yard 14th, but gave it back on the 15th to remain at 2-under. After a birdie on 18th for the second time, Whaley is in the clubhouse at 3-under, 137 and is tied for 35th.
Wilmer Edero also led the way for the Noles in the opening round, shooting, 1-under 69. Edero opened the round with two birdies on the front nine, but with a bogey on the 18th, he finished the round 1-under, 69. Edero matched the score in the second round, closing out the day with a birdie on 18. Edero is tied for 44th at 2-under, 138.
In his first stroke play tournament back from injury since April, Tyler Weaver tallied rounds of 1-over, 71 and 2-under 68 on Friday. After a tough start on the front nine in the first round, Weaver rallied for three birdies on the back nine. In the second round, Weaver dropped to 2-over after a bogey on fourth hole, but took advantage of back-to-back birdies to pull to even as he made the turn. Weaver moved to 1-under after a birdie on the 11th, but gave it back on the 16th. He finished strong with a birdie on the 18th to move up to 1-under, where he sits tied for 51st.
In the first round, Nils-Levi Bock shot 1-over, 71, using a pair of birdies on the final three holes to move up the leaderboard. Bock improved in the second round, finishing with a pair of birdies on the back nine to turn in a score of 1-under, 69 for the round. He sits
The teams remaining on the course will finish the second round on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. ET. Groups will be repaired for the third round following the conclusion of round two. Round three will begin at 11 a.m. ET.
