TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State football team (2-2, 0-1 ACC) defeated Central Arkansas (2-3, 0-1 UAC) 34-7 Saturday afternoon at Doak Campbell Stadium.
The Seminoles totaled 417 yards of offense, marking their third 400-plus-yard performance in four games this season. Florida State's defense held the Bears to a season-low seven points, improving to 12-0 when allowing fewer than 10 points under head coach Mike Norvell.
After scoring in every quarter through the first three games of the season, Florida State scored in each of the first three quarters Saturday. The streak of scoring in 15 straight quarters to begin a season was the program's longest since the 1999 team scored in the first 15 quarters of its season.
Sophomore wide receiver Jayvan Boggs turned in a career day, recording career highs in receptions with six and receiving yards with 122 while adding one touchdown.
Fifth Year quarterback Ashton Daniels completed 12 of 18 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns while adding 34 rushing yards.
Sophomore running back Ousmane Kromah carried the ball 11 times for 86 yards and two touchdowns. With his first score of the afternoon, Kromah became the fifth Seminole since 1995 to record a rushing touchdown in each of Florida State's first four games of a season.
Junior defensive back CJ Richard Jr. led the Seminole defense with eight tackles. Sophomore defensive lineman Mandrell Desir added four tackles and 1.0 sack.
Florida State needed just 31 seconds to find the end zone. Following a 39-yard kickoff return by junior wide receiver Micahi Danzy, the Seminoles scored on their second play of the game when Daniels connected with senior wide receiver Duce Robinson for a 29-yard touchdown to give FSU a 7-0 lead.
After forcing a turnover on downs, Florida State put together a five-play, 57-yard scoring drive. Two receptions by Danzy helped set up a 15-yard run by Kromah, followed by a 26-yard Daniels scramble. Kromah capped the drive with a six-yard touchdown run to extend the Seminoles' lead to 14-0.
Following consecutive Central Arkansas punts, Florida State added 10 points to its lead. Fifth Year kicker Gabe Panikowski connected on a 23-yard field goal after a drive that featured a 27-yard reception by Boggs and an 11-yard run by senior running back Quintrevion Wisner. Kromah then added his second touchdown of the afternoon, punching in a one-yard score to cap Florida State's longest drive of the game. The eight-play, 88-yard possession was highlighted by 60 total yards from Kromah, giving the Seminoles a 24-0 lead.
Central Arkansas found the end zone with 1:40 remaining in the first half. Florida State took a 24-7 lead into the break.
On Florida State's opening possession of the second half, the Seminoles marched 80 yards and extended their lead when Daniels connected with Boggs for a 34-yard touchdown. Boggs recorded two catches on the drive, including his first touchdown of the season, as FSU pushed its advantage to 31-7.
Florida State later added to its lead with a 31-yard field goal from Panikowski, making it 34-7.
The Seminole defense shut out the Bears in the second half as Florida State closed out the 34-7 victory.
Florida State remains at Doak Campbell Stadium next Saturday for its second ACC game of the season, hosting Virginia. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m., with the game scheduled to air on either ESPN2 or ACC Network.
