The Fighting Irish won the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season title in 2021 by five games, but Florida State was the only team to win a regular season series against Notre Dame. FSU won two-of-three games at Notre Dame.
Notre Dame head coach Link Jarrett was a four-year starter at Florida State before graduating in 1994. Jarrett later spent time as a volunteer coach for FSU before spending 10 years as a head coach at UNC-Greensboro (7 years) and Notre Dame (3 years).
Jarrett and FSU head coach Mike Martin, Jr. were teammates in 1993 and 1994.
The Seminoles have continued to rise in the polls after winning all six weekend series this year. Last weekend, FSU won the first two games against Duke, including an ACC Pitcher of the Week performance from Parker Messick.
Messick, from Plant City, Florida, struck out a career-high 14 Blue Devil hitters Friday night in FSU’s 4-0 win. Messick has been named the league’s pitcher of the week twice this season.
Bryce Hubbart earned his team-high fifth win Saturday against the Blue Devils, working 7.0 innings and allowing just two solo home runs in the Noles 7-2 win.
Four Seminoles are hitting over .300 after Logan Lacey tallied a season-high three hits Tuesday against Florida. The senior joins Reese Albert (.391), Jaime Ferrer (.344) and James Tibbs (.320) among FSU’s everyday players hitting .300.
Tibbs and Brett Roberts had a pair of hits Tuesday against the Gators, and Roberts scored two runs and had an RBI in the contest.
Notre Dame enters the weekend on a four-game ACC losing streak after getting swept in three games against Louisville and one against Virginia Tech. The final two games of last weekend’s series against the Hokies was cancelled due to weather.
