The third-year sophomore hit his 20th home run of the season Sunday, the first Nole with at least 20 in a year since Buster Posey hit 26 in 2008. Nelson has 57 runs batted in and an .867 slugging percentage.

Messick, from Plant City, Florida, ranks second in the ACC with a 2.45 earned run average and 91 strikeouts. Messick has won three consecutive decisions and has 10 consecutive games with at least 5.0 innings pitched and two or fewer earned runs allowed.

Hubbart and Grady both set career highs in strikeouts last weekend against Troy. Hubbart retired 12 Trojan batters via K in 6.1 innings, also a career best. Grady needed just 5.0 innings to strike out 13 batters, the most for a Seminole this season.

Other notes:

  • Outfielder Elijah Cabell has eight hits over his current five-game hitting streak. Nelson has a career-high 10-game hitting streak.
  • Designated hitter Davis Hare hit his first career home run Sunday against Troy, breaking a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning. Hare also had a double in the fifth inning and is hitting 9-for-22 on the year.
  • Jack Anderson has a 37-to-3 strikeout-to-walk ratio this season. All three of Anderson’s walks came in his first appearance and he has 35 strikeouts since then. Anderson earned his first two saves last weekend against Troy.
  • The Seminoles lead the ACC in ERA (3.20), hits allowed per nine innings (7.34), shutouts (4), strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.48), strikeouts per nine innings (11.8) and WHIP (1.19).
