Seminoles Begin Women’s College World Series Championship Series Against No. 1 Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The third-seeded Florida State softball team (58-9) will begin their third national championship series against No. 1 Oklahoma (59-1) on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN. Fans can also listen to the action on Westwood One radio on Sirius XM Radio channel 84. Game two will take place at 7:30 ET on Thursday night.

This will not only be a rematch of the 2021 Women’s College World Series Championship Series but also the second meeting between the two teams this season as they played in a midweek matchup in Norman on March 14. The Sooners took a tight one-run victory on the day.

Series History

  • This will be the 18th meeting between Florida State and Oklahoma.
  • The two teams met earlier this year in Norman where OU took a 5-4 win.
  • This will be the third time the two teams have met in the postseason (1994, 2021) and the second time the teams have met in the Women’s College World Series National Championship.

Florida State NCAA Tournament History

  • The Seminoles are 108-76 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
  • The Seminoles are making their 12th appearance in the Women’s College World Series which is the third-most among this year’s WCWS field.
  • The Seminoles are 22-21 all-time at the Women’s College World Series.
  • The Seminoles have now reached the championship series in their last three trips to Oklahoma City.
  • This is the 35th time the Seminoles have qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

OKC Trip No. 12

  • The Seminoles clinched their 12th trip to Oklahoma City after defeating No. 14 Georgia (8-1, 4-2) in the Tallahassee Super Regional.
  • The Seminoles clinched their third trip to WCWS Finals after victories over No. 6 Oklahoma State (8-0 (6)), No. 7 Washington (3-1), and No. 4 Tennessee (5-1).
  • This is the first time the Seminoles have reached the WCWS Finals with no losses in Oklahoma City.
  • The Seminole are now 13-4 in their last three trips to Oklahoma City.
  • The Seminoles last made a trip to OKC in 2021 where they went on to the championship series before falling to Oklahoma.
  • As the No. 3 seed, this is the highest seed the Seminoles have ever had entering the Women’s College World Series.

WCWS Experience

  • 11 out of the Seminoles’ 22 players were on the 2021 National Runner-Up team.
  • Devyn Flaherty, Kaley Mudge, Kalei Harding, Josie Muffley and Kathryn Sandercock were all starters for the 2021 team.
  • Mudge and Sandercock were each named to the 2021 WCWS All-Tournament Team.

Dominance in the Circle

  • The Seminoles’ pitching staff has been elite so far in the WCWS.
  • In three games, the Noles have given up just two earned runs for 0.70 ERA.
  • The Seminoles are led by senior ace Kathryn Sandercock who has allowed just three earned runs in 35.0 innings of work in the NCAA Tournament. Sandercock is 5-0 in the NCAA Tournament and recorded two saves.
