TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Playing its final home series of the 2019 regular season, No. 6 Florida State (42-8, 13-5 ACC) will celebrate senior weekend on April 26-28 as the Seminoles host Duke (25-27, 11-10 ACC) for three games at JoAnne Graf Field.
Prior to Sunday’s game, FSU will honor redshirt senior Meghan King, seniors Zoe Casas, Cali Harrod and Carsyn Gordon, along with redshirt junior Deja Bush, who will earn her undergraduate degree at the end of the semester. On Saturday, the Noles will celebrate five student managers – Tessa Daniels, Abby Evans, Connor Evora, Alex Gleicher and Sabrina Stutsman.
“You go through all of the emotions on senior weekend,” said FSU head coach Lonni Alameda. “You are almost like a proud parent. I call it ‘sappy’, because you are sad and happy at the same time. And I don’t know if it is even just this weekend, or leading up to it, as I’ll make a memory book and see how they’ve grown from their freshman year until now. We are just really proud of them for the mark they are leaving on the program.”
The 2019 FSU softball senior class has posted a record of 210-48-1 in their four years, including three ACC Championships, two trips to the Women’s College World Series and the 2018 NCAA National Championship.
The quintet have earned a total of 15 ACC Player/Pitcher of the Week accolades – King (10), Gordon (3), Harrod (1) and Casas (1), while Harrod was named NFCA National Player of the Week and Casas received USA Softball National Player of the Week honors.
In the last four years, the Seminoles have recorded four of the eight longest winning streaks in program history – 28 games (2018-19), 24 (2017), 22 (2016) and 20 (2018). FSU won 36 straight ACC games from 2016-18, which was the longest in ACC history and marked the fifth-longest conference winning streak in NCAA history.
This weekend will mark the first time that Florida State has played Duke in softball, as the Blue Devils are competing in just their second season in program history. FSU and Duke do have a shared history however, as the Blue Devils have an assistant coach with a storied history in the Garnet and Gold in Lacey Waldrop, who owns the school record in wins (109) and earned three NFCA All-American honors during her career, including being named the 2014 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year.
All three games this weekend will air on ACC Network Extra and links for the broadcast, tickets and live stats will be available on the softball schedule page of Seminoles.com.
Fans can listen to the FSU softball coaching staff, head coach Lonni Alameda and assistant coaches Travis Wilson and Craig Snider, on their weekly podcast: Coaches and Coffee – The FSU Softball Podcast.
