REDSHIRT SOPHOMORE (2022):

Led FSU with 144 strikeouts in 98.2 innings, finishing 7-5 with a 3.38 ERA…made a team-high 16 starts…was the only ACC starting pitcher named a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy…First Team All-ACC and First Team All-American pitcher…drafted in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Guardians…became the first Seminole with 100 strikeouts in back-to-back years since Drew Parrish in 2018-19…struck out 136 batters in the regular season, fourth most in FSU history…was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week four times in 2022…had a streak of 30.0 consecutive innings without allowing a run at Dick Howser Stadium, lasting from March 25 to May 14…struck out 54 batters and walked just two in that span…struck out 14 batters three times, including in 6.2 shutout innings against No. 9 Louisville…also K’d 14 vs. No. 7 TCU and Duke, and had 13 against Samford…Messick and teammate Ross Dunn were the only players in the ACC with a 14-strikeout game in 2022…started three of FSU’s four shutout victories…struck out 12 Boston College hitters, a career high for a road game…was the first Seminole since 2016 to start on Opening Day in consecutive seasons.


REDSHIRT FRESHMAN (2021):

Named ACC Pitcher & Freshman of the Year after going 8-2 with 126 strikeouts in 90.0 innings pitched and a 3.10 earned run average…became just the second player in Atlantic Coast Conference history to earn Pitcher & Freshman of the Year honors in the same season…third team All-American and first team Freshman All-American…first team All-ACC and Freshman All-ACC team…finished 16th nationally in strikeouts and 24th in strikeouts per nine innings (12.60)…had a streak of 11 consecutive games, and 13 on the season, with at least 5.0 innings pitched and two or fewer earned runs allowed…struck out a career-high 12 batters against North Carolina on April 2, had 11 against Virginia and Wake Forest and 10 at Miami and vs. Clemson…after starting the season 0-2, including a 1-0 loss against Pitt, did not lose over his final 14 starts and FSU was 12-2 in those games…in his ACC Tournament debut, struck out 7 Miami batters in 5.0 innings to earn the win as FSU improved to 4-0 on the season against the Hurricanes…in the regular season at Miami, struck out 10 in 6.2 innings and added three RBI at the plate to earn John Olerud Award Two-Way Player of the Week honors…in his NCAA Tournament debut, did not allow an earned run in 6.0 innings to beat Southern Miss in the Oxford Regional…career-high 8.0 innings and 11 strikeouts, with a season-low three hits allowed and no runs, in 2-0 win against eventual College World Series-participant Virginia…named the ACC and College Baseball Foundation Pitcher of the Week for his game against the Cavaliers…earned his sixth win of the year at No. 2 Notre Dame on May 7, allowing a run in 6.0 innings as FSU was the only team to win a regular-season series against the Fighting Irish in 2021…threw 6.0 innings in FSU’s 9-0 win at Georgia Tech, FSU’s first shutout of the Yellow Jackets since 2000 and the first in Atlanta since 1985…at the plate, Messick was 9-for-40 with a home run in his first career plate appearance at Virginia Tech, the first Nole to homer in his first at-bat since Jonathan Foster in 2018…helped lead FSU to a 3.45 team ERA and .230 team batting average against, both tops in the ACC…played summer ball with Team USA’s Collegiate National Team.


FRESHMAN (2020):

One of D1Baseball’s top freshman pitchers in the nation, allowed just one earned run in 11.2 innings (0.77 ERA), with 19 strikeouts against only two walks…surrendered just nine hits…helped end FSU’s 11-game losing streak against No. 1 Florida, pitching the final three innings and allowing just two hits with seven strikeouts in FSU’s 2-0 win in Gainesville…earned the save against Florida…made his FSU debut on February 15 against Niagara, with a scoreless inning…earned his only win of the season against the Purple Eagles…pitched a season-high 3.1 innings against No. 3 Texas Tech, allowing an unearned run with five strikeouts…also had five strikeouts in 2.2 innings against USF…struck out the side against the Bulls in the fourth inning, with all three strikeouts looking…pitched over the summer for the Winter Garden Squeeze in the Florida Collegiate Summer League, earning Cy Young honors as the best pitcher in the league…went 3-0 with a 0.49 ERA in 18.2 innings for the Squeeze, striking out 27 batters and allowing just five hits and three walks.


PERSONAL:

Graduated from Plant City High School where he was a two year team captain…named 2016 All-Hillsborough County by the Tampa Bay Times and played in the Hillsborough County East-West All-Star game as a freshman…as a junior, he won the 2018 Wade Boggs Athletic Achievement Award for his athletic, academic, and community involvement…named first team pitcher & second team first baseman on the 2018 All-Western Conference Federal Division team…named second team All-Hillsborough County by the Tampa Bay Times and team MVP…as a senior he led all pitchers in the State of Florida with 125 strikeouts over 86 innings pitched, with a 1.06 ERA and an 11-1 record with just 18 walks, 8 complete game wins in a row and 7 shutouts…he helped the Raiders win the schools first ever District, Region, and State Championship and a 30-2 team record… he threw a complete game shutout in the Class 8A Region Final in a 3-0 win over Seminole, and in the Class 8A State Semifinal he led the team to an 8-0 win over Hollywood McArthur by striking out 16 batters, allowing just three hits and no walks and at the plate he went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a solo home run…named 2019 MaxPreps All-American first team pitcher, named Florida HS All-State first team pitcher by Prep Baseball Report, and made both the FACA All-State and All-Academic teams…named 2019 All-Hillsborough County and All-Tampa Bay Pitcher of the Year by the Tampa Bay Times…named 2019 Florida Dairy Farmers 8A Player of the Year and voted 2019 Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Baseball…named 2019 All-813Preps Most Valuable Player and 2019 All-Western Conference first team pitcher for the second year in a row…he finished his pitching career at Plant City with 45 appearances, 37 starts, 11 complete games and 8 shutouts, including a school record 263 career strikeouts in 212 innings pitched with a 1.58 ERA and 21-10 record…he also finished with a .294 career batting average including 64 hits, 45 walks, 12 doubles, 1 triple and 7 home runs with 40 RBI and 30 runs scored…parents are T.J. and April Messick…sister Regan…majoring in economics…born on October 26, 2000.
