Jonathan Rutledge is in his first season at Florida State as an analyst working with special teams after joining the program in January of 2025.
 
Rutledge spent four seasons at Catholic University of America as the associate head coach, offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator. He served as acting head coach for much of 2024 and was honored with Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year. Out of 240 Division III teams, Catholic ranked third in punt return defense in 2024, fourth in net punting in 2023 and fifth in net punting in 2024.
 
He previously spent time at Nebraska, Auburn, Missouri, North Carolina, Memphis and his alma mater, Ole Miss.
 
Rutledge coached at Nebraska in 2020, serving as the senior special teams analyst. The Cornhuskers ranked 14th in the nation in punt return average as Rutledge recruited and coached first-team All-Big Ten kicker Connor Culp.
 
Rutledge spent the 2018 and 2019 seasons as a special teams analyst at Auburn. The Tigers ranked in the top 15 among special teams units both seasons according to Football Outsiders. Christian Tutt ranked fifth in the country in 2019, averaging 13.6 yards per punt return, while Noah Igbinoghene averaged 35.2 yards per kickoff return. Auburn led the country with seven blocked kicks in 2018 and ranked fifth in net punting after ranking 115th the season prior.
 
At Missouri in 2017, Rutledge mentored punter Corey Fatony, a Ray Guy Award semifinalist. The Tigers ranked third in the country with 16.5 yards per punt return, and in 2016 Missouri was top 15 nationally in net punting and punt returns.
 
A graduate assistant at North Carolina in 2014 and 2015, Rutledge worked with the Tar Heels’ wide receivers and special teams. North Carolina’s special teams ranked second nationally in 2015 and ranked in the top 20 in kick return defense, blocked punts and punt return defense in 2014. Kicker Nick Weiler was a Lou Groza Award semifinalist in 2015.
 
Rutledge was a graduate assistant at Memphis in 2012 and 2013, coaching tight ends and overseeing special teams. In 2013, punter Tom Hornsey was the Ray Guy Award winner and future Super Bowl champion Jake Elliott was a Lou Groza Award semifinalist in his freshman season.
 
Rutledge’s career began as an offensive quality control specialist, working with the Ole Miss quarterbacks in 2011. He graduated with a degree in secondary education from Ole Miss in 2011 and has a daughter, Harper.
