TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Florida State senior Petra Hule, who finished the 2022 spring season with a 22-2 record in singles play, has been named as the ITA Southeast Region Senior Player of the Year and the ITA Southeast Region Most Improved Senior Player of the Year.  She finished the season as the nation’s No. 7 ranked singles player and as a member of the No. 20 ranked doubles tandem in the nation.

Hule was ranked as high as No. 3 in the nation in singles and as high as No. 16 nationally in doubles with teammate Anna Arkadianou.  Hule played in both the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship after leading the Seminoles to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Championship tournament.

Hule finished her final year as a Seminole with a 28-7 overall record in singles – her total is tied as the ninth highest single-season singles win total in school history.  During the season, she gained 12 wins over players who were selected to play in the NCAA Singles Draw and totaled six victories over players who were ranked within the nation’s top 15.

She finished 2022 with a 14-10 record in doubles play and was paired with Anna Arkadianou in the doubles competition at the NCAA Championships.  Hule and Arkadianou played 15 matches against nationally ranked doubles teams and earned three wins over players selected to play in the NCAA Doubles Draw.  The duo earned its biggest doubles win of the season came with a 6-4 win over No. 1 ranked Elizabeth Scotty and Fiona Crawley of No. 1 ranked North Carolina in the quarterfinals of the ACC Championship.  The duo won both of their matches in the ACC Championships with wins over No. 20 Page Freeman and Maria Olivia Castedo of Notre Dame along with Scotty and Crawley of North Carolina.

“What Petra was able to achieve in her senior season is simply remarkable,” said Head Coach Jen Hyde.  “She has been in the middle of some of the most dramatic growth and success in this programs history. And this season, in her final year, she was able to singularly stand out as one of the absolute best of the best in college tennis.

W. Tennis: Hule Named ITA Regional Senior Of The Year

“We are so proud of Pep, and for her to earn not only one, but two of the most significant player performance awards in our region speaks volumes to what she just accomplished. This girl is absolutely fierce, and even bigger things are ahead for her and her career.”

Hule graduated from Florida State on April 30, 2022 with a degree in English and as a two-time All-American.  She completed her incredible career ranked second in total victories (202), tied for first in doubles victories (106) and seventh in single victories (96) at Florida State.  Hule was a member of four NCAA Tournament teams in her five seasons at Florida State – the Elite 8 in 2018, Round of 32 in 2019, Elite 8 for a second time in 2021 and the round of 32 in 2022.

Hule is the fourth Seminole (and first since Ana Oparenovic in 2019) to win the Senior Player of the Year Award and the fourth Florida State player (and first player since Nandini Das in 2020) to win the Most Improved Senior Player of the Year Award.
