TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After being selected as the ACC Performer of the Week on Sept.7, Florida State student-athlete Adriaan Wildschutt was named the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Men’s Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Covered Bridge Open back on Sept. 3.
Performances from the first few weeks were considered for the award.
“Adriaan is truly one of the finest cross country runners in the nation,” FSU head coach Bob Braman said. “This is an appropriate honor for him. I’m proud of him for all of the hard work he’s put in to get to this level.”
Wildschutt led the 8k race from start-to-finish, crossing the line in 24:48.53 for the victory.
His time was nearly 20 second ahead of the next competitor, helping the Seminoles win the meet with a total of 36 points.
The Ceres, South Africa, native, brings the weekly honor back to FSU for the first time since Harry Mulenga captured the award in 2016 following his win at the Covered Bridge Open.
Wildschutt also picked up his third-career ACC Performer of the Week after that performance. He previously won the award following the FSU XC Winter Invite and FSU Last Chance Meet in February and March earlier this year.
The Seminoles will host the FSU XC open at 7:40 a.m. on Sept. 17 at the Apalachee Regional Park. For more information on Florida State cross country, follow Twitter @FSU_Track and Instagram @FSU_Track.
